THE DANCES
What we do is all geared up for complete beginners and/or a mixed crowd. No experience necessary! Everyone can join in, our ceilidh is inclusive for all, no matter their age or dancing ability!
We’ve hand-picked the best and most fun Ceilidh and Barn dances from all over the British Isles, including favourites like the Gay Gordons, Strip the Willow, Dashing White Sergeant and the Bridge of Athlone! The ones anyone with experience will know and remember but are still simple enough to teach to those with no experience at all.
We can also tailor the evening to be more Scottish or Irish themed, or just general fun Barn dance. We do this through the dances we do, the music we play and outfits we wear! Whatever your preference, just let us know!
THE CALLER
Our band comes with Ceilidh Caller as standard to encourage all of your guests onto the dance floor and teach them the dance moves! Each dance is explained slowly, step by step before we play it with the music. We make sure the calling is lighthearted and funny too so it’s entertaining for those who do have some experience and no one feels like they have to get it exactly right! Going the wrong way here and there is part of the fun!
There’s no better entertainment for audience participation than a ceilidh and no one feels nervous as they’re doing all the steps together!
THE MUSIC
Our music is fun and lively, mixing traditional tunes from Scotland, England and Ireland to guarantee all of your guests are up, jigging around on the dance floor! Even those with two left feet!
Our line-up is Caller, Fiddle, Guitar and a second tune player usually Banjo or Box but we’re often requested to have a Bodhran drum and work it lots of talented musicians so let us know if you have a preference… Sheffield is a big hub for talented Folk musicians so we’ll know someone who plays the instrument you’re after. A number of the band are also multitalented (eg: Philippe play guitar, flute, whistles and Irish pipes!)
